How to Stop Seeking Validation and Start Valuing Yourself

There’s something quietly powerful about choosing yourself- not out of ego, but out of remembrance. For so long, many of us were taught to earn love by being agreeable, accommodating, or endlessly understanding. We learned to shrink to fit. But eventually, that constant bending leaves us disconnected from our own reflection.

Lately, as I prepare to open my heart again- to date, to love, to be seen- I’ve realized how essential it is to return to myself first. Not to prove that I’m healed, but to remember that my worth was never broken to begin with.

The Trap of Seeking Validation

Validation isn’t always obvious

Sometimes it’s the small things- checking your phone to see if they texted back, overexplaining to avoid being misunderstood, or agreeing when your heart quietly says no. It’s the part of us that asks, “Am I enough?” and waits for someone else to answer.

But the truth is, external validation is nothing more than a quick fix for the ego. It gives a brief rush of worthiness before it fades, leaving us hungry again. Real nourishment comes from within- from learning to validate your own emotions, choices, and needs before anyone else does.

Reclaiming Your Worth

When you start valuing yourself, the entire energy of your world shifts.

You speak differently.

You walk differently.

You choose differently.

You stop chasing closure and start protecting your peace. You stop performing for love and start standing in your truth. And the more you honor your worth, the more life- and love – rises to meet it.

Here’s what that looks like in practice:

Saying no without guilt.

Walking away from connections that require you to shrink.

Celebrating your progress even when no one else notices.

Taking time to rest, recharge, and realign before you re-engage.

Every act of self-respect reinforces your worth like a sacred affirmation.

Love, But From Wholeness

As I step back into dating, I’ve made a quiet promise to myself. I will no longer look for someone to make me feel chosen- I already am. I will not wait for validation- I radiate it from within. And I will remember that love is meant to add to my glow, not define it.

When you show up knowing your value, you magnetize people who see you clearly. You no longer chase energy- you attract your energetic match. You no longer beg to be understood- you speak your truth and trust it will land where it’s meant to.

A Gentle Reminder

You are not hard to love- you were just taught to love others more than yourself. You are not behind; you’re right on time for your own becoming. And you are not too much- you’re exactly enough for the version of love that’s ready for you now. So, before you reach for someone else’s approval, place your hand on your heart and whisper-

“I remember who I am. And that is enough.”

How to Reset Your Mindset When Negativity Takes Over

If negative thoughts have been a challenge for you this week, you’re not alone.

We’ve all had those moments when our thoughts start looping, replaying the same worries or regrets on repeat. It’s like your mind gets stuck in a rut, and no matter how hard you try, it keeps circling back to the same negative track. This is what psychologists call rumination-and while it’s a normal human habit, it doesn’t have to run your life.

The truth is, you can reset your mindset. It’s not about never having negative thoughts- it’s about knowing how to gently redirect them so you can return to clarity and peace.

Why We Ruminate

Our brains are wired to scan for problems as a way of keeping us safe. That was useful for survival, but at this point in time it has outlived its usefulness. Rumination often causes us to overthink conversations, worry about the future, or relive old hurts. The problem is, rumination drains energy, magnifies stress, and keeps us from moving forward.

Here’s the good news- with awareness and practice, you can stop the spiral.

3 Steps to a Mindset Reset

Pause and Notice

The first step is awareness. When you realize you’re caught in a loop, pause and call it out: “I’m ruminating right now.” Simply noticing the pattern creates a little distance between you and your thoughts.

Breathe and Ground

Your body is your anchor. Take three slow, deep breaths. Feel your feet on the floor. This signals safety to your nervous system and calms the mental storm.

Redirect With Intention

Ask Yourself: “Where would I rather place my focus right now?” Choose something that lifts or steadies you- a gratitude list, a supportive affirmation, or even a small action like taking a walk. The point is to shift from passive replaying to active choice.

Gentle Practices to Help You Reset

Journaling: Write the looping thought down, then reframe it into something more supportive.

Affirmations: Speak kindness to yourself- “I am allowed to move forward. I choose peace over replay.”

Movement: Shake off the stuck energy with a stretch, dance, or walk outside.

Connection: Call a trusted friend or spend time with someone who makes you feel safe and grounded.

Remember: Resetting is a Practice

You don’t have to get it “perfect.’

Negative thoughts will come- it’s part of being human. What matters is how quickly and kindly you guide yourself back. Each time you practice pausing, breathing, and redirecting, you strengthen your ability to reset.

Your mind isn’t the enemy. It just needs a gentle reminder that you are in charge of where your focus goes. And with every reset, you reclaim a little more peace.

You can’t always control the first thought, but you can choose the second. Each reset is a chance to realign with clarity, calm, and compassion.

Soft Strength: The Power of Being Both Gentle and Unshakable

When most people think of strength, they imagine steel walls, unshakable composure, and the ability to push through no matter what. And when they think of softness, they often picture fragility or weakness.

But here’s the truth: real strength isn’t about never bending, and real softness isn’t about breaking. Soft strength is the harmony between a tender heart and an unshakable core. It’s the courage to stay open in a world that sometimes asks us to shut down.

Why Soft Strength Matters

We live in a culture that celebrates hustle, grit, and toughness. Now, don’t get me wrong- those qualities are valid and have their place, but they can leave us disconnected from our humanity if they become our only mode of living.

Soft strength is important because it reminds us that we can be assertive and compassionate, we can set boundaries and stay kind, and more important still- we can cry and still be capable, loving, and powerful.

It’s not about choosing between being gentle or strong- it’s about being both, fully.

Vulnerability as a Form of Courage

Vulnerability isn’t about oversharing or exposing yourself to harm, it’s about showing up as your authentic self, even when there’s a risk of being misunderstood. That’s bravery in its purest form. Every time you tell your truth, ask for help, or admit you don’t have it all figured out, you’re proving that your strength doesn’t depend on pretending- it depends on being honest and authentic.

Resilience with a Soft Heart

Resilience often gets portrayed as bouncing back quickly, but soft strength knows there’s value in moving slowly, in feeling the impact before standing tall again. True resilience means allowing yourself to grieve, rest, and process- not skipping over the discomfort but moving through it with self-compassion.

I’ve learned that my own resilience doesn’t come from ignoring my pain; it comes from acknowledging it and still choosing to move forward. Some of my most courageous moments where I held my boundaries while keeping my heart open, or when I let tears fall but still spoke my truth. That’s the balance of soft strength- open hands, steady feet.

A Challenge for You This Week

Ask Yourself:

-Where can I let myself be a little softer without fear of losing my strength?

-Where can I stand a little taller without closing my heart?

Because when you embrace both, you become unstoppable- not because you can’t be broken, but because you know how to heal and rise again. Remember soft strength doesn’t shout. It doesn’t need to. It radiates from within.

From Rock Bottom to Rebirth: Why I Became a Life Coach

Some stories aren’t easy to tell. But they’re the ones that matter most.

For a long time, I stayed silent about what I had been through- about the pain, the fear, the loss, and the quiet hope that somehow kept me going. But today, I want to share a part of my journey with you, for those of you who aren’t familiar. Not for pity, but for the sake of authenticity and connection. Because if you’re in a dark place right now, I want you to know that you aren’t alone and that healing is possible.

The Breaking Point

From 2017 to 2021, I was in a marriage that was emotionally- and at times physically- abusive. Despite how miserable I was, I still found it difficult to leave. Part of me was still holding on to this hope that we would ‘get past’ this horrible time in our marriage and return to the love and life that we had planned together. He was also there for me during one of the most difficult periods of my life- the loss of my father in 2020. I felt like I couldn’t leave him after that. I mean, how could I walk away now?

The ’how’ became clear once the abuse worsened. It was as if the passing of my father emboldened him. And although I had a fear of the unknown, I knew that the unknown had to be better than what I was going through. I left with my daughter and the clothes on our backs. And for a time, we were homeless.

We bounced from motel to motel just trying to survive. My sister and I worked twelve hour shifts to keep us from literally being on the streets- and to take care of ourselves, my daughter, and mama. I was exhausted, heartbroken, and unsure of how we’d ever rebuild. But somewhere in all that pain, a small voice inside me whispered: this is not the end of your story.

The Turning Point

I didn’t become a life coach because I had it all together. I became one because I needed healing.

I enrolled in a certification program not to start a business at first, but to save myself. To understand my trauma. To learn how to process the pain, and piece my life back together.

And slowly, I began to do just that.

I applied what I was learning to my own life. I started seeing myself more clearly. I began trusting my voice again. I reclaimed my peace- and in doing so, I found my purpose.

Why I Coach Now

Today, I don’t just coach people on mindset and motivation. I walk them through their own moments of doubt, overwhelm, burnout, and healing. I create space for others to find themselves again- because I know what it’s like to feel lost and invisible.

This work isn’t a cash grab to me or just a job. It’s sacred.

It’s proof that even after everything… you can still glow.

If my journey teaches you anything, let it be this:

-Rock bottom doesn’t mean you’re broken- it means it’s time to rise.

-Healing isn’t linear, but it is possible.

-Your power is still within you, even if you’ve been through hell and back.

You’re not too broken. You’re not too late. And your story? It’s not over yet.

Rest Isn’t Lazy- It’s Sacred.

There was a time in my life when I didn’t believe I had the right to rest. I equated rest with laziness- a luxury I hadn’t earned yet. I thought if I just push harder, worked longer, or kept showing up no matter how I felt…maybe I’d feel secure. Maybe I’d be “enough.”

A few years ago, while caring for my mother, I lost my job. Out of fear and survival, I poured myself into building my coaching business. I woke up every morning at 5 a.m. and would often work 13-hour days. I told myself if I didn’t hit certain milestones, I didn’t deserve a break. No sleep. No pause. Just pressure.

But then, life forced me to stop. My mother’s health declined rapidly, and the stress of everything began to take its toll. I ended up having a lupus flare- my body shutting down from the weight I had been carrying in silence.

I had no choice but to rest.

And it was in that sacred stillness-not the hustle- that I began to heal.

I found clarity.

I started breathing again.

I began to understand that rest wasn’t weakness. It was wisdom.

Rest isn’t something we earn. It’s something we are entitled to.

Our bodies, our minds, our hearts- they aren’t machines. They whisper to us long before they scream. But we’ve been taught to ignore those whispers in the name of productivity, performance, and pressure.

Discover Your Purpose in 3 Steps

Do you know what your purpose is in life?Life can feel pointless and perhaps even cruel when you haven’t found that thing that gives it meaning.

Determining what our purpose is in life can be one of the hardest questions that we as humans must try to answer. In this blog we will be going through a step-by-step process, exploring your feelings and options and by the end, you should have a fairly solid tool you can immediately employ in your life, to help give it a meaningful direction!

There are three steps to the process of discovering the purpose of your life:

  1. Understanding the principle of choice
  2. Creating your “underlying principle”
  3. Aligning your life with this underlying principle

Understanding The Principle of Choice

Norman Vincent Peale has this to say about the power of choice. “The greatest power we have is the power of choice. It is an actual fact, that if you have been groping under unhappiness, you can choose to be joyous, instead. And, by effort, lift yourself into joy. If you tend to be fearful, you can overcome that misery by choosing to have courage. The whole trend and the quality of anyone’s life is determined by the choices that are made”.

“Choosing” is the most important activity of your mind, because by making a choice, you are proclaiming your desires to your subconscious mind. Once the subconscious mind gets to know your desires, it is going to do anything to manifest them in your life. The choices you make in your life become your goal. And, if you are sincere in pursuing them, there is no reason why you should not accomplish them.

Indecision, on the other hand, not only creates frustration and anxiety, but can also confuses the subconscious mind about what you want. But it is important that the choices you make are made by you, in accordance with your true desires, purposes and aptitude. A lot of us let others make choices for us or make our choices according to what we think is ‘correct’, even if that means going against our own wishes. What is right for someone else may not be right for you, and the way to know this is listening to what your heart says.

So, to begin with, make a list of things which interest you; things which you have always enjoyed, which make you feel better, which inspire you to press forward, no matter what obstacles you face. Do you like doing something creative, or something artistic? Do you enjoy nature? Do you like the sea? Do you enjoy helping others? Do you get pleasure out of making a difference in other people’s lives?

Whatever it is that interests you, write it down and answer these questions:

  • What thing do you love to do?
  • What is it that you love about this thing and why?
  • How could you do this for money, and make a living out of it?

Creating Your Underlying Principle

The next step is to examine the list you just made and find out if there is any recurring theme. Maybe, it is contribution that keeps coming up, or a desire to seek or give love, to feed the hungry, or help the elderly cope with old age. Whatever it is, try to identify the central theme of the things you love to do, and try to put it in a short and precise statement. This will be your ‘Mission Statement’. It may even be a quote by a famous person, or a philosophy that has influenced you. Of course, as you grow up, this statement could evolve, but its soul will remain the same. Now, write down your Mission Statement.

Aligning Your LIFE With Your Underlying Principle

The final step in this journey is to map your path to your ultimate purpose and to begin implementing changes that help to align your daily life with your underlying purpose. Take a moment to brainstorm on the little things that you can do right now to cultivate the energy and environment you want to be in. By making these little changes in your lifestyle, you will be able to begin living this principle out each and every day. It might take a few days, but by becoming aware and intentional of this underlying principle of your life, you will certainly start to feel the difference in your enthusiasm for life as a whole. If you realize that you love being amidst nature, plan out vacations and outings. Maybe an outing with your children or friends can be the start as you create even more ways to get into the environment that helps you thrive most. If you discover that you enjoy helping those in need, start to look for opportunities to volunteer in your community. On the other hand, you might even want to change your job, or start a new business that is more in line with your mission.

Whatever it is that you desire to do, know that it is in you to do- or else you wouldn’t have had the idea or desire in the first place.

So, there you have it! By following along with the steps outlined above, you will be on your way to finding and living out your purpose. 6 Questions to Ask Yourself When Pursuing Your Dream.

What’s your dream? Want to stop hoping and start making things happen? Write down your goals and use these questions to speed up delivery of your dream.

1. What’s your highest priority in this lifetime?

What’s most important for you to experience, explore or embrace in your life right now? Until you answer this question, your life goals will be off purpose. Unaligned with your inner passion, your intentions will lack the power to attract the people and situations necessary to become a reality.

Get tuned in to your true joy. What activities did you enjoy as a child? What are your hobbies now? When your goals are aligned with your soul, synchronicity kicks in to guide you exactly where you desire to go.

2. Is this your dream, or someone else’s?

Are your goals your own choice, or what others think you should strive for? Do you want to look back on your life in your old age and wish you had followed your passion? Will you regret having “played it safe?”

Is it selfish to go after your own dream? What joy can you give to others if you haven’t given it to yourself first?

3. Are you settling for less than you deserve?

Are you resigned to accepting less than your full share of love, health and success this lifetime? Have you compromised and sacrificed your dream?

Anything short of living your true passions will never make you happy.

4. What will you feel like when you reach your dream?

Personal passion fuels a vision. Dive into the thrill and exhilaration of the feeling of living your dream.

The Hawaiian Kahuna say, “Where your creative attention flows, so flows your life.”

5. What steps can you take today toward your dream?

Don’t defer your dream. Set up supports and systems around you to instantly translate your intentions into action. Jump on every opportunity that is in line with your purpose and vision.

Are there smaller projects that lead to your larger dream? If the dream is to run a marathon, train for a local fun-run first. And find a way to measure your progress. Track those little wins-by writing in a journal or telling a friend.

6. Are you telling yourself: “I can’t have my dream?”

Most people don’t believe they can live their dream. Either their belief system has them believing they can’t make a living doing what they love, or they feel they don’t deserve their dream. To avoid the pain of feeling they can’t have their dream, people often keep their dream so buried they can’t remember they ever had a dream.

Everyone has a dream! And everyone is destined to fulfill that purpose. Why wait?

There’s No Time Like Now

Most people in our culture today are so busy running around trying to arrange their lives to be somewhere else. We all want to be somewhere else geographically or financially or in our relationships. We want to be anywhere but here as we’ve been led to believe that if only we can be somewhere else then our lives would be perfect. This escapism acts like a drug that only gives temporary relief to a chronic problem.

Apart from wanting to be somewhere else, most people today also live by a philosophy of “someday” that allows them to manipulate time. “I can do it, but just not today. I’ll do it when…” and they use these excuses to stay in their comfort zones. The problem is that both someday and somewhere are undefined and illusionary. Somewhere does not exist and someday never comes, although you keep hoping that it does. This can be very disempowering and is responsible for a lot of disappointment and frustration for a lot of people. 

The truth, however, is that right now is all you’ve really got. Tomorrow is never promised to you and learning to fully live in and for the moment is a vital distinction to make in creating a great life. Being grateful does not mean that you lose your drive or purpose but allows you to slow down and really enjoy the ride. Not only is it healthy to want more from life, but it is also required to be truly fulfilled and knowing where you are is critical in getting where you want to be. Using someday as an excuse to soften your problems will not create long term success and fulfilment. Be honest with yourself and stop making excuses only to make yourself feel better. A little pain can be very useful as it will move you to action. There is always something you can do right now to turn your ideas into reality. There is always one small step you can take.

One of the most powerful resources you have is resourcefulness. This means that right now you have all that you need to achieve whatever you desire and that you have the ability to take action with exactly what you’ve got and exactly where you are. You do not have to wait for “someday when” or “when I am…” before you act on your dreams and goals. The smallest idea acted upon can make all the difference as it immediately makes your idea real and smothers someday because you used your will to consciously take charge.

It is important to realize that the purpose of pursuing a goal or a dream is not just in achieving it but even more so in the experience of achieving it. You do not travel for the purpose of reaching a destination but for the purpose of travelling. Whatever dream or goal you are pursuing you will probably spend more time in pursuit of it than actually achieving it and most goals are an anti-climax when you actually achieve them anyway. The process is where true fulfilment comes from and the actual experience is what makes you become something instead of accumulating something. If you can’t be happy and grateful without your goal, then chances are that you won’t be happy and grateful with it.

Live in the present but know where you are going. Be right here and celebrate and capture the magical moments of your life. Hold on to them as the treasures you get to take with you into your magnificent future. Life is not just lived in the moment but also created in the moment. Now is the best time to design the next ten years of your life. Let your thoughts and knowledge serve you through action.  Action is what eventually determines your destiny. Move confidently in the direction of your choosing and don’t get seduced by the popular belief that someday things will come your way or someday your luck will change. You are the source and the creator of your own prosperity, and it all starts with a sense of immense gratitude for everything you already have exactly where you are right now. One of the greatest privileges you have in life is that you can start right now with exactly what you’ve got to create anything you desire as the ultimate resources to life are within you.

Living in a place called somewhere really won’t serve you long term although it might feel good as a short-term escape or excuse. Having to constantly lie to yourself that you will act on your true desires some day when x, y or z is just right will only create an unnecessary burden. When you turn your “someday” philosophy into a “same day” philosophy you can start to adopt the mindset where you take action on your ideas immediately with exactly what you’ve got and exactly where you are.

What someday and somewhere really comes down to is that you falsely admit to yourself that what you need is not available to you. This creates a belief that you are not in control of your life but that you are waiting for something else somewhere else before you can take charge. Ironically, you will only get full access to your true resources when you take action exactly where you are with exactly what you’ve got, despite your excuses. True happiness and gratitude never rely on external conditions but is purely determined by your evaluation of where you are now. Now contains the seed of the rest of your life. Plant it with joy and water it with gratitude and rejoice in your life for you are its creator.

6 Keys to Finding True Happiness

Are you happy? Did you know that happiness is your right and that you have every right to pursue it?

Yes indeed! The pursuit of happiness is one of the basic elements of human existence. We came here to be happy, we deserve to be happy, we want to be happy… So why are so many people unhappy then? Most likely people are not happy because they are missing one of the six keys to happiness.

The most important key to your personal happiness is determining that you will be happy. For many people, their personal happiness is not a priority in their life. Too often, we put the happiness of others before our own. While this may please our children, spouse, or boss, this is not the path to happiness. Doing things solely for the happiness of others often leaves us feeling unappreciated and unfulfilled in the long run, which is why it is important to prioritize doing things that genuinely make you happy. This doesn’t mean you should make yourself happy at the expense of others, but you must remember that the reverse should also not be true — your happiness should not be sacrificed to make others happy.

Once you have determined to make your pursuit of happiness a priority you need to determine just what it is that makes you happy. Spend some time reviewing the happy times in your life. Think about memories that make you smile or activities that make you joyful. Can you find a common element or theme? If so, that common element is one of the keys to finding true happiness for you.

Now that you have identified what makes you happy you need to engage in that activity. Perhaps you need a creative outlet? Join a writing group, take an art class, or learn an instrument. Do you need physical activity? Then find a way to get into a sport you love or try enjoyable activities that involve movement such as dancing to your favorite music or playing catch with your fur baby. Just find a way to reconnect with this key element.

 For most of us, special people in our lives can provide another element of happiness. Connection to others makes the human experience more joyful. Perhaps you have lost touch with someone important and can reach out to them to reconnect. Or maybe you just need to plan some special time with family. It is important to our own pursuit of happiness to stay connected with those we love.

Another essential to finding true happiness is to give of ourselves as well. Helping others in both small and large ways can help make you happier and more content. You might even be able to find a way to combine giving and engaging in an activity that makes you happy. For example, if you love to make people laugh you could organize a community talent show as a fundraiser for a local charity.

Finally, make a list of all the aspects of your life that do make you happy. So many of us get down because we dwell on the negative, but usually there is something about your life that makes you happy. Make a list of these items so you can have a quick mood enhancer when you feel down.

The pursuit of happiness does not have to be challenging or arduous. Finding true happiness can be as simple as determining, identifying, engaging, connecting, giving and reminding yourself of the 6 keys to personal happiness.

The Power of A Dream

Some time ago, I spoke to a Youth Leadership Group at a conference, and I was deeply inspired listening to the dreams that the teenagers had for the future.  While I was presenting, I felt the group of teens begin to realize that it is ok to dream and be proud of what you have done in your life, and where you want to go in life.

As adults, we need to realize that the power of a dream will enable you to achieve whatever your ultimate “WHY” in life is.  By the age of 35, most people lose all of their dreams and fall into a rut. From the age of 25-65, people generally go back and forth to work and say to themselves,” I wish…if only I could have…if only I knew then what I know now,” and numerous other lamentations expressing that they do not feel fulfilled in life.  The key in life tofeeling fulfilled is to simply listen to your inner spirit and make your daily work in life something that you love to do and will help you achieve your dreams.

The key word in that sentence is dreams!  Too many people when asked, “Where do you see yourself 2-5 years from now” give the answer, “Just let me make it through the weekend.”  The underlying reason that they don’t know where they are going to be is because they have no dreams.  This can be extremely frightening!  Most of the teenagers that I spoke to at the conference had dreams for their life and where they see themselves in the future.  As a life coach, my ultimate goal is to empower people to find their WHY in life — to catapult them to attain their dreams. 

I also spoke to the group about how important it is to be around a mastermind team, which will push you on and let you know it is awesome that you have a dream. As an overall population, the majority of adults (somewhere around 95%) have no mastermind team or solid support system. They do, however, have a group of so-called friends who will tell every reason why they should never try to win and to just accept their life. But do you really want to concede to a life of mediocrity? Of course not!  You need to stop right now and take a personal inventory of your life and ask yourself three life-changing questions:

1) WHAT is my WHY in life? (Why am I getting up each and every day?)

2) WHO is my Mastermind Team?

3) WHERE do I see myself 2-5 years from now?

When you answer these questions you need to be tell yourself the truth because the truth shall set you FREE!  The key to living a fulfilled life is waking up each day with a driving desire to achieve your “WHY”.  The key to winning in life is to be part of a winning team and realize life decisions are challenging but very beneficial.  Bring your Dreams back to life!
